Worship
Artistic expression is very much a part of God's heart and we believe that the Lord is restoring the value of the arts, once again, within the church. This is why we need to tenaciously pursue the use of artistic expression on a consistent basis. Look at how much of the arts are mentioned throughout the Scriptures:
Music
- The book of Psalms is actually a hymn book
- The Levites put the messages from the Lord to music (1 Chron.25:1)
- Music in heaven (throughout the book of Revelation)
Poetry
- The Psalms, the book of Job and Song of Songs are all examples of biblical poetry.
Visual Arts
- The design and building of the tabernacle (Ex.31:1-11)
- The finest carvings and engravings were in the tabernacle (1 Kings 6:15-36;7:23-39)
- Pillars were erected for artistic expression (2 Chron.3:15-17)
Instrumental Music
- The word SELAH seen through the Psalms could refer to an instrumental interlude
- Trumpets were used to gather the nation for meetings, during feasts, worship, and even war. (Lev.23:24, 25:9; Num.10:1-10; Josh.6:20; 1 Sam.13:3; 2 Sam.2:28; 2 Kings 9:13; Ps.150:3)
- Other instruments include lyre, harp, flute, stringed instruments and percussion (1 Sam.10:5;1 Kings 1:40; 1 Chron.25:1; Ps.45:8,92:1-3; 150:3-5; Matt.9:23)
Dance
- Psalm 150:4 - praise Him with tambourine and dancing
- Exodus 15:20 - Miriam led a praise dance using a tambourine
- Judges 11:34 - welcomed soldiers home with dancing
- 1 Samuel 18:6 - dancing when David defeated Goliath
- 2 Samuel 6:14-15 - The ark brought back with dancing
Drama
- Ezekiel acted out the coming siege against Jerusalem (Ez.31:1-11)
