Care Groups at Parkland

Most of us have been on a team at some time in our life...

... it may have been on a project at work or a sports team. The advantages of having a team of players or workers are obvious; more people usually means a lighter work load for everybody. Different people bring a variety of skills and abilities to a project. Team members are there to support and encourage each other through each stage of the project or game.

Now, wouldn't it be nice to have that same advantage in our spiritual life? If a team of people is better for everyday projects how much more important is a team of people helping you navigate through the ups and downs of spiritual growth?

Care groups consist of 4 to 12 people who meet together on a weekly basis in someone's home. These groups study the Bible together, pray together, and support one another. Why not try one out this week? All of our groups are open and encourage newcomers.

Our care group has been composed of a great mix of fine, ordinary people (married and single, young and middle aged adults so far) from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and occupations. We have not only happily enjoyed one another's company (and food), but have also appreciated joint Bible study (currently studying Hebrews), praying for and otherwise encouraging and supporting each other. We would love to see others feel free to join and find themselves most welcome and very much at home. (By the way, we have terrific hosts, Mark Tonn & Lynn Musto.) In spite of our shared weaknesses, we trust that, with God's enabling, we will indeed help each other to be more faithful followers of and worthy witnesses to Jesus.

Vision - Provide a comfortable, supportive and fun setting to understand and apply the Sunday message from Monday through Saturday. The goals of our group are:
  • Dig deeper into the Sunday message and determine how it applies to our daily lives
  • Get to know each other better in a casual and fun atmosphere
  • Be a support network for each other
  • Enjoy some good food, of course!

We're all "too short" to do the Christian life solo. Our care group will be all about helping each other to "get the view" -- I suspect there will also be some great adventures and laughs along the way!

We meet to encourage one another as men. When we get together, we plan to study (we will be following the sermon series as Brian preaches), to support one another as men and for tons of prayer. Our motto is: Leave your armor at the door.

Ladies' Saturday morning study -- Our number one desire is that through studying the Word we will see and experience the God who seeks us... that He would become the foundation of our lives -- what we stand on... and the Light that illuminates each and every step thereafter. A close second desire is that as we come together we will find a place of safety where we can be, and that out of that "being" we will become a community of spiritual sisters who truly care for one another.

This year we will discuss how prayer can have a huge impact on our lives. We will be reading, Stormie Omartian's book, The Prayer That Changes Everything, The Hidden Power of Praising God. The book will show us that every time you praise God, something changes within you, in your circumstances, or in the people or situations around you. I look forward to a wonderful time of sharing and praying together.
